Inez Daugherty, 91 was interviewed by The Swannanoa Valley History Museum in 2003. She recounts her experience at the public library. Unfortunately, Ms. Daugherty’s reminisce was similar to many rural citizens of color throughout Buncombe County who weren’t served by their local library branch and didn’t have regular transportation to the only branch library serving African Americans in downtown Asheville.
