Dr Mabel Ramsey was one of the first ever female doctors in the city. As well as campaigning for better living conditions for children, she was also one of the leaders of the suffragists in the city. This is where she worked and practiced medicine. Dr Ramsey was also a doctor in World War One and refused to abandon her patients, even when she was told to retreat! She was truly remarkable, but is often forgotten compared to Emmeline Pankhurst and Millicent Fawcett. Plymouth has decided to commemorate her memory in a small way by dedicating a plaque to her.
