About

Due to the size of the workforce and shift patterns, Vauxhall had its own canteen which sat on Kimpton Road. At its peak, more than 25,000 meals were served and over 7,000 cakes and buns were baked daily, all subsidised at a very reasonable price. Plans for a new canteen begun in 1937, and saw many changes over the years, including a two floor expansion. As well as cooking meals, it was also used for social events and presentations, ranging from concerts to formal dinners making it a central social scene.
