Around the late 1800's, the New Industries Committee was formed to reduce Luton's reliance on the hat trade and promote the town as a location for emerging businesses. This initiative ultimately led to Vauxhall's relocation to Luton in 1905. As production expanded, so did the plant, with new buildings and factories added over the decades. Vauxhall's presence not only created opportunities for local suppliers and industries, such as AC Delco and Skefco, but the wages of over 30,000 employees supported the local economy, including the many shops and cafes that lined the Kimpton Road. New homes were built, communities grew, and the town's population rose from a few thousand to over 250,000 today.
